Seeding

Athletes will be seeded by their head to head power scores in the first round of matches at head-to-head standard qualifiers. The athletes with the highest power scores will compete against athletes with the lowest power scores.

Rest Time

Head to Head competitions are incredibly fast-paced. All athletes will compete in a minimum of two matches. It’s important to be aware that strength and endurance play a key role in an athlete’s performance at head-to-head competitions. Athletes will likely end up running races back to back and the minimal required rest time is 30 seconds. This means athletes can run a race and then be back on the course 30 seconds later.

This style of competition closely mimics more traditional sports where an athlete’s strength and endurance play a key role in their ability to outperform their opponent. Athletes conditioning will play a big role in their ability to find success in the head to head format.

Formats

The Head to Head competitions can be ran in either the Flow Course Format or in the Challenge Course Format

Head-to-head competitions use a modified version of the Challenge Course format. For the individual version of the Challenge Course Format, the clock runs during reset. At head-to-head competitions, the clock continues to run while an obstacle is being reset. This is done to ensure the athlete reaching the buzzer first is the winner of the head to head race.

Course designers are trained to account for the running clock. Their training highlights the importance of obstacles that can be reset quickly and efficiently.
