Head to head ninja competitions are incredibly exciting to watch and participate in. The competition atmosphere at these events is electrifying. The competition format uses a double elimination bracket to advance athletes and determine the winner of the compettion.
This exciting competition format scores athletes using either the Flow or a modified Challenge Course Format. More information on either format can be found on their respective pages, but to oversimplify the scoring, Challenge allows retries while Flow does not.
Below you will find some general terms specific to head to head to competitions.
Each head to head race is considered a match. A match is between two or more athletes. The winner of a match will advance to the next round, while the other athlete will move to the redemption bracket.
A round is a series of individual matches. Athletes competing in a round are looking to win their match and advance to the next round.
Athletes will be seeded by their head to head power scores in the first round of matches at head-to-head standard qualifiers. The athletes with the highest power scores will compete against athletes with the lowest power scores.
Head to Head competitions are incredibly fast-paced. All athletes will compete in a minimum of two matches. It’s important to be aware that strength and endurance play a key role in an athlete’s performance at head-to-head competitions. Athletes will likely end up running races back to back and the minimal required rest time is 30 seconds. This means athletes can run a race and then be back on the course 30 seconds later.
This style of competition closely mimics more traditional sports where an athlete’s strength and endurance play a key role in their ability to outperform their opponent. Athletes conditioning will play a big role in their ability to find success in the head to head format.
The Head to Head competitions can be ran in either the Flow Course Format or in the Challenge Course Format
Head-to-head competitions use a modified version of the Challenge Course format. For the traditional version of the Challenge Course Format, the clock pauses while the course is being reset. At head-to-head competitions, the clock continues to run while an obstacle is being reset. This is done to ensure the athlete reaching the buzzer first is the winner of the head to head race.
Course designers are trained to account for the running clock. Their training highlights the importance of obstacles that can be reset quickly and efficiently.
