A miss doesn’t have to end your run.
Reset, adjust, and take another shot at the obstacles standing between you and the finish.
Take your shot.
Didn't get it?
Reset. Adjust.
Try again.
Challenge gives you opportunities to recover from a miss. Use your retries wisely, solve the obstacle, and keep your run moving.
You can retry up to two failed obstacles during your run, but each obstacle only gets one second chance. Clear the retry to keep moving.

Same progress. Faster time. The number of retries used doesn’t change the ranking.
Challenge rewards the ability to adapt. Reset, rethink your approach, and turn another attempt into progress.
You may retry up to two failed obstacles during a Challenge Course.
Each individual obstacle can only be retried once, so your two retries must be used on different obstacles.
Your goal is still to progress as far through the course as possible. Athletes receive one point for each obstacle they clear, and time is used to separate athletes with equal progress. The number of retries you used is not an additional ranking factor.
Your clock is paused while the obstacle is being reset for your retry. Once the obstacle is ready, the referee will initiate a new countdown and your time resumes.
So the time needed for staff to reset an obstacle doesn’t count against your run.
You must successfully complete the obstacle on your retry to continue progressing through the course. If you fail the retry, your scored run ends at that point.
No. Challenge obstacles are completed in sequence. If you miss an obstacle, you must successfully complete it on your retry before you can continue scoring on the course.
Challenge Course format is used across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Head to Head when the course is designed to test technical skill, precision, adaptability, and problem-solving.
At the World Championships, Challenge scoring is used for the Technical Discipline, and Worlds Head to Head courses also follow the Challenge format. Challenge has also been used as the centerpiece format in Premier Series competition.
The formats used can vary by competition, so check your event details to know what you’ll face.
