COMPETE

What to Expect at Tier 1 or 2 Regional Championships

Whether qualified in Tier 1 or Tier 2, athletes will get the same thrilling experience of taking on two courses in an exhilarating atmosphere at the World Ninja League Regional Championships

While both Tier 1 and Tier 2 Regional Championships follow the same format, the courses are scaled appropriately for the ability level of each tier and division.

Regionals Course Format

  • Flow Course: Course designed to test your speed, agility, and accuracy. The goal of a flow course is to clear obstacles from the starting platform to the buzzer in as little time as possible.
  • Challenge Course: Longer, more technical course designed to put your grip, strategy, and endurance to the test. In a challenge course, you have one opportunity to retry up to two failed obstacles, allowing you an extra chance to conquer a challenge.

Regionals Run Order

Run order for Regionals will be determined by total season points from each athlete’s best 12 competitions. The higher the points, the later in the run order.

Conquering two distinct courses allows athletes to showcase their consistency, endurance, strength, and speed.

SCORING

How Regionals are Scored

Every athlete’s efforts and accomplishments are recognized through a standardized and equitable scoring system, regardless of tier or division.

Scoring follows the Multi-Event Competition, Course Overall scoring rules:
  • Overall placement is determined by the sum of the placements (lowest to highest) on each of the two courses.
    • Example:
Athlete A places 1st in flow and 4rd in challenge. Total of placements = 5
Athlete B places 2nd in flow and 2nd in challenge. Total of placements = 4
Athlete C places 4th in flow and 3rd in challenge. Total of placement s= 7
Athlete B would take 1st place.

  • Ties are broken by identifying the athlete with the best individual placement out of both courses.
    • Example:
Athlete A places 1st in flow and 4th in challenge. Total of placements = 5
Athlete B places 2nd in flow and 3rd in challenge. Total of placements = 5
Athlete A takes 1st place overall because of the 1st place placement.
  • If a tie cannot be broken, the highest placement on the challenge course is used to break the tie.

ROAD TO WORLDS

How to qualify for Worlds at Regionals

An athlete’s season journey doesn’t stop with the Regional Championships. At Regionals, athletes will compete for their spot at the World Ninja League World Championships.

How to qualify for Worlds at Regionals:

All qualifications are by tier, division (ex. Kids Female, Kids Male, etc.), and region.
  • The number of qualifying spots per division awarded at Regionals is determined by taking 35% of the unique athletes in each division (per region), up to a total of 40 spots.
    • If 35% results in fewer than 15 qualifying spots, that division will be awarded 15 spots.
  • Qualifications roll down- if an athlete has already qualified for worlds, that spot will be awarded to the next athlete.

Home region advantage

  • If athletes from other regions place in the qualifying spots, additional spots will be awarded to the next highest athletes from the host region.
    • ex: If the Northeast Region has 40 qualifying spots and two Midwest athletes place in those top 40 spots, two more Northeast athletes will qualify, bringing the total to 42 qualified athletes.

All qualifying details can be found in the rulebook under “World Ninja League Championship Competition.”
