An Update on Head to Head Bracket Seeding and Power Score

We have updated the language in our rulebook regarding how seeding for Head-to-Head Competitions will be determined. Seeding will now be based on an athlete’s combined Power Score, which is the average of their Head-to-Head Power Score and Tier 1 Power Score. Once an athlete has competed in 5 or more Head-to-Head competitions, they will be ranked solely by their Head-to-Head Power Score.  These changes are designed to ensure fairness and accuracy in competition seeding and flow.

The updated language can be found in our rulebook and down below!

  1. Brackets at Head to Head Competitions will be determined by an athlete’s combined Power Score based on the following conditions:
    1. Seeding will be based on an average of each athlete’s Head to Head Power Score and their Tier 1 Power Score from the traditional circuit. For athletes who have not yet competed in the Head to Head competition circuit, their initial Head to Head Power Score will start at 1500.
      1. Example: If an athlete has a Tier 1 Power Score from the traditional circuit of 1630 and a Head to Head Power Score of 1500, their average would be:

                                               (1630 + 1500) / 2 =1,565

This combined score of 1565 would be used to determine their seeding.

  1. Once an athlete has competed in 5 or more Head to Head competitions, they will be ranked solely by their Head to Head Power Score, and their Tier 1 Power Score from the traditional circuit will no longer be used for seeding.
    1. Example: Athletes with the highest combined or Head to Head Power Score (for those with 5 or more competitions) will have the number 1 seed and compete against athletes with the lowest Power Score.
  2. In the event, the number of athletes competing isn’t the same as the number of athletes needed for a full round of a double-elimination bracket:
    1. The highest-seeded athletes will not need to compete in the first round if there is no opponent for them to race against based on their seed.
    2. The highest-seeded athletes who in their first bracket match will be racing against an athlete who has already run the course will be allowed to run a practice run.
      1. Practice runs will not be recorded in NinjaWorks and cannot be considered as a best course run for an athlete.
      2. Practice runs will be run before the start of the bracket
      3. In competitions where two or more athletes receive a practice run, they will run all practice runs in pairs until all practice runs have been run.
        1. Two athletes running at the same time during a practice run will not be considered in any official capacity for competition scoring.
        2. The athlete with the highest power score will run the course alone if there is an odd number of athletes needing a practice run.
  3. In the event two or more athletes have the same combined or Head to Head Power Score, seeding will then be randomized.
