Know Before You Compete

Who can compete in Tier 1?

Tier 1 is open to athletes of all experience levels and is designed for intermediate through elite competitors who are ready for more challenging courses and stronger competition. You don’t need to qualify to begin competing in Tier 1.

Athletes compete in age and gender divisions based on their age as of January 1 of the current season:

Kids: 6–8
Mature Kids: 9–10
Preteens: 11–12
Teens: 13–14
Young Adults: 15–17
Adults: 18–39
Masters: 40+

Elite: Athletes age 13+ may choose to compete in the Elite division.

Each age division is separated into male and female divisions.

No. Regular-season Tier 1 competitions are open entry, so you don’t need to qualify before competing.

Qualification comes into play later in the season for championship events such as Regionals and the World Championships.

Your Power Score is a way to measure your performance and progress in Tier 1 competition. It changes as you compete based on your results, the athletes you compete against, and the level of competition.

As you build your competition history, your Power Score gives you another way to see how you’re progressing throughout the season.

Athletes can earn a place at a Tier 1 Regional Championship through participating in Tier 1 Standard Qualifiers. Top 3 finishers at each qualifier earn Regionals qualification. Roll-down spots apply if top athletes are already qualified.

Regional Championship qualification is based on where you compete, so you compete for qualification within multiple regions throughout the season.

There are multiple ways to earn a place at the Tier 1 World Championships, giving athletes opportunities to qualify throughout the season.

Qualification opportunities include pathways through Regional Championships, season standings, All Stars, Premier Series and other qualifying events.

You only need to earn a Worlds qualification through one eligible pathway to secure your place.

That’s okay. WNL offers more than one way to compete.

Tier 2 is designed to give developing athletes a place to compete, build skills and confidence, and continue progressing at their own pace.

Choosing Tier 2 doesn’t close the door on Tier 1. Your next challenge will still be there when you’re ready.
